Liz Goodwin, Mar 5, 2009, 1:42PM ESTThe garden is a great idea! I live in an apartment but last year I tried growing herbs and tomatoes in small containers. It was unsuccessful since I started too late in the season, but think I think I'll try it again in April this time. -

I've never been able to get the bucket off myself and am to the point where it's too hard to attach the snow blower in the winter. I definitely got my money's worth from it ... but it's time for it to move onto a new family who will love it more! :) -

One of them is written by an upstate NY woman, Lasagna Gardening for Small Spaces: A Layering System for Big Results in Small Gardens and Containers. Thought it might be relevant because of where you live, similar climate.
I never bought it myself, but worth checking a library for or reading reviews on. -
